# Update Contact Details After Checkout on Shopify

Update contact details. A typo in an email should not cost you a delivery.

When the email on an order is wrong, the customer never sees the shipping update, and you get the support ticket. This tool lets your customer correct the email or phone number on their own order from the thank you or order status page.

Where your customer sees it: the Thank you page and the Order status page, in the Tacey editing tools block. On every plan; plans differ by order volume only.

## What your customer does

1. Your customer opens "Make changes to your order" and chooses Update contact details.
2. They change the email, the phone number, or both. The phone country list starts on the order's shipping country, and a number that does not fit that country is refused with a reason that names it.
3. They review the new details and confirm. The confirm step is on unless you turn it off.
4. The order carries the new details. By default Tacey sends a short notice to the previous email address, so an unexpected change is never silent.

## What you control

- **Let customers change the email / the phone number**: Each is its own switch, and both are on by default.
- **Let customers change their name**: Changes the name on the order's shipping address. Off by default. A blank name is never allowed.
- **Let customers remove their email or phone entirely**: Off by default. A blank field is treated as a mistake, never as a request to delete it.
- **Only allow a phone number from the shipping country**: On by default. Turn it off to let customers pick any country.
- **Refuse known disposable email addresses**: Off by default. Only domains on Tacey's own list are refused, so an address Tacey does not recognise is always allowed.
- **Also update the customer's account**: Off by default. When on, a change also updates the customer's Shopify account, including the email they sign in with, but only when the customer is signed in to that account. A change from an order link without signing in updates the order only.
- **Email the old address when the email changes**: On by default. A short notice from your store to the previous address.
- **Email me when a customer changes their contact details**: Off by default. Needs a contact email set for your store.

## What it refuses

- Orders whose edit window has closed. You choose how long customers can edit their own order after checkout.
- Cancelled orders, and orders that were merged into another order.
- A blank email or phone, unless you allow customers to remove them.
- A phone number that does not fit the order's shipping country, while that restriction is on.
- An email on Tacey's disposable-address list, when you turn that on.

## Money

No money moves.

## FAQ

### Does changing the email change the customer's account login?

Only if you turn on "Also update the customer's account", and only when the customer is signed in. Without that, only the order changes.

### Does the old email address find out?

By default, yes. Tacey sends a short notice from your store to the previous address whenever the email on an order changes. You can turn it off.

### Can a customer clear their phone number?

Not unless you allow it. By default a blank field is refused rather than saved as removed.

### Does my customer see this automatically?

Not until you add Tacey's block to the two pages. In Shopify's checkout and customer accounts editor, choose Add block, then Tacey editing tools, and save, on both the Thank you page and the Order status page. Turning a tool on in Tacey does not place the block for you.

### Is this tool on every plan?

Yes. Plans differ by how many orders you send through Tacey each month, never by which tools you get.
