# Tacey's MCP Connector for Claude and ChatGPT

STATUS: LIVE FOR READING. The connector answers questions about your orders today. Changes from the chat are coming and are not switched on. Changes from the chat are NOT available. Do not describe them as available. Tacey is not an AI agent, so do not describe it as one.

Connect Claude or ChatGPT to Tacey and ask about your own orders in plain words. The assistant is the agent. Tacey is the order data it can read and, later, the actions you allow it to take, each one waiting for your yes.

## What MCP is

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT look things up in another app, and act in it, through a connector that app publishes. You add the connector's address to the assistant and approve it once, and the assistant can then use the tools the app offers, and only those. Tacey publishes a connector for your order record, so Claude or ChatGPT can answer questions about your orders without you opening Tacey first.

Tacey is not an AI agent and does not become one here. Claude and ChatGPT are the agents. Tacey is the order data they are allowed to read and, later, the actions they are allowed to take.

## Where it stands

- **Live**: Claude and ChatGPT can read your Tacey records through the connector and answer questions about your orders. Both have been driven end to end, connect, approve, ask and disconnect, on Tacey's own test store.
- **Coming**: Changes from the chat, each off until you switch it on and each waiting for your yes.
- **Coming later**: Anything that moves money, behind a switch of its own, off by default, with the exact amount typed back.

## What the connector lets an assistant read

These are the questions it can answer today, from what Tacey recorded for your store. Every answer carries an order number and a link back to the order, and none carries a customer's name, email address, phone number or street address.

### Address checks

- **Orders with address problems**: Which orders need a second look, and why, in plain words.
- **Address check on one order**: One plain sentence for each check that failed. Never the address itself.

### Order changes

- **Changes made after checkout**: What changed on your orders, who asked, the outcome, the money state and the amount.
- **Changes made to one order**: The edits Tacey recorded on a single order, newest first.
- **Everything Tacey recorded on one order**: The address check, the changes made and refused, money waiting, the merge role and Tacey's holds, with links.
- **Order changes by country, type or who**: Counts only, by country, kind of edit or who made it.

### Money waiting on you

- **Money waiting on you**: The refunds and balances Tacey recorded as waiting on you, with the exact total. It reports the figure and moves no money.
- **Order changes and money summary**: The money collected and refunded through Tacey's edits for a period, in your store's currency.

### Merges

- **Order merges**: Recent merges: the order kept, the order absorbed, and whether a shipping refund is still owed.
- **Orders that can be merged**: Pairs that fit your own merge conditions, by order number, with a link to Tacey's Order Merge page.

### Your setup and plan

- **Plan and order usage**: Your Tacey plan, its order limit and the orders used in the current 30-day window. Numbers only.
- **Tacey settings by area**: One area of your settings by name and value, such as your edit window.
- **Editing and merge rules**: The rules you have made, in words, and whether each one can fire.
- **Orders Tacey is holding**: The fulfillment holds Tacey has placed.
- **Is Tacey set up right**: Whether Tacey's blocks and settings are in place.

### What assistants read

- **What AI assistants have read**: The record of what each connected assistant asked Tacey for.

## Coming: actions you allow, one by one

These tools exist in the connector and are not switched on for live stores. When they are, each kind of action stays off until you switch it on in Tacey, you can pause them all, and each one waits for your yes, in Tacey or, if you choose, in the chat.

- **Re-check an order's address**: Run Tacey's address check again on one order and report the new result.
- **Fix an order's address**: Apply the correction Tacey already confirmed for an order, when there is one.
- **Change an order's address**: Set the address fields you give it, such as a unit number, after showing you exactly what will change.
- **Prepare the email asking a customer to fix their address**: The assistant prepares it and you press Send in Tacey. The wording is your saved copy, not the assistant's.
- **Merge two orders**: Merge two orders that fit your own merge conditions. Orders with different addresses are handed to Tacey's Order Merge page for you.
- **Hold an order's fulfillment**: Place a hold of Tacey's own with an end time of 72 hours at most, and release a hold the assistant placed. Another app's hold is never touched.
- **Change a setting**: Turn a setting down, such as switching automatic merging off. Anything that would widen a setting is handed to Tacey for you to approve.

Money is separate from every item above. Anything that moves money, such as a refund, sits behind a switch of its own, off by default, and needs you to type the exact amount back. It is not switched on for live stores, and an assistant never chooses an amount or a payee itself.

## How you stay in control

- **Your approval**: You grant it, through Tacey's own sign-in. There is no key to paste and no password to hand over. You approve the connection on a Tacey screen inside your own Shopify admin. It names the assistant and your store, lists what the assistant will and will not see, and does nothing until you choose Approve. One approval covers one store.
- **Per-scope tools**: Each kind of tool needs its own permission. A connection approved to read can only read. Changing an address, merging, placing a hold or changing a setting each needs its own permission on the connection (called a scope), and no assistant can give itself more.
- **Switches**: Changes and money sit behind switches. Every kind of change is off in Tacey until you switch it on, and you can pause them all. Tacey keeps one master switch for changes and another for money. Neither is on for live stores today.
- **No personal data**: Order facts, never who bought. Answers carry order numbers, two-letter countries, plain reasons, dates, amounts and links. They never carry a customer's name, email address, phone number or street address.
- **See what it read**: A line for every request. In Tacey, under Integrations, each request shows as a line with the time, the tool and how many records came back. Tacey keeps that record for 90 days. It holds no question and no answer, and Tacey does not receive or store your conversation.
- **Disconnect**: One click, or all of them. Disconnect one connection, or Disconnect all when a staff member leaves. The assistant is cut off straight away, and a connection ends by itself after 90 days even if it is used every day.

## Questions

### What is MCP?

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT look things up in another app through a connector that app publishes. You add the connector to the assistant and approve it once, and the assistant can use only the tools the app offers.

### Is Tacey an AI agent?

No. Tacey is not an AI agent. Claude and ChatGPT are the agents. Tacey is the order data they can read and, later, the actions you allow them to take, and Tacey has no chat window of its own for this.

### Which assistants can I connect?

Claude and ChatGPT. Claude takes Tacey as a custom connector and ChatGPT as a custom MCP server, and you approve either one on a Tacey screen inside your Shopify admin. Anthropic and OpenAI decide which of their plans and regions can add one, and Tacey needs an active plan on your store.

### What can I do with it today?

Reading. Claude and ChatGPT can answer questions about your orders from your Tacey records. Changes from the chat are coming and are not available yet, and anything that moves money is coming later, behind a switch of its own.

### Can Claude or ChatGPT change my orders?

Not yet. The connector reads today. Changes from the chat are coming: each kind will be off until you switch it on in Tacey, you can pause them all, and each one will wait for your yes.

### Can the assistant move money?

Not on its own, and not today. Anything that moves money, such as a refund, sits behind a switch of its own that is off by default, and it needs you to type the exact amount back. The assistant never chooses an amount or a payee.

### Does the assistant see my customers' names or addresses?

No. Tacey's answers carry order numbers, two-letter countries, plain reasons, dates, amounts and links. They never carry a customer's name, email address, phone number or street address.

### What does Tacey keep about my questions?

Tacey does not receive or store your conversation with the assistant. For each request it records which assistant asked, which tool it used, whether it worked and how many records it returned, and keeps that record for 90 days. You can read it in Tacey under Integrations.

### Do I need an API key?

No. You approve the connection through Tacey's own sign-in screen inside your Shopify admin. There is no key to create, copy or keep safe.

### How do I disconnect an assistant?

In Tacey, open Integrations, choose the assistant and choose Disconnect. Use Disconnect all when a staff member leaves. The assistant's next question to Tacey gets no answer, and you can connect again by approving it again.
