Bad-Address ROI Calculator

Plug in your monthly orders, AOV, and undeliverable rate. See exactly what bad shipping addresses cost you in carrier fees, lost order value, and staff time.

Bad orders per month10
Carrier fee bleed$255.00
Lost order value (~15% abandon)$127.50
Total monthly cost$382.50
Annualized$4,590.00
Staff time burned monthly2.5 hours

Industry source: USPS Address Quality Solutions reports avg $25.50 per undeliverable parcel cost (carrier fee + reship label). The 15% abandon rate is the median across recent Shopify Plus operator surveys - customers who ghost after a delivery failure rather than respond to fix-email outreach.

What this tool does

Size the silent revenue leak from bad addresses

Most Shopify merchants underestimate what bad addresses cost their store. This calculator multiplies your monthly orders by industry benchmarks (average undeliverable rate ~2.1% per Shippo, average failed-delivery cost $17-25, FedEx address correction $25.50, UPS up to $25) to give you a defensible monthly dollar number you can show to your finance team or your founder.

How to use it

Two inputs, three loss numbers

  1. 1

Enter your monthly orders (Shopify Analytics > Sessions and Orders).

  2. 2

Enter your estimated undeliverable rate. Use the industry default of 2.1% (Shippo benchmark) if you don't have your own.

  3. 3

Optionally enter your average order value to model lost-revenue impact in addition to direct fees.

  4. 4

Read the three loss numbers: monthly carrier-correction fees, monthly failed-delivery cost (re-ship + support), monthly chargeback exposure.

Merchant tips

Why most merchants are off by 5-10x

  • Carrier correction fees ($25.50 FedEx, up to $25 UPS) hide in carrier invoices line-by-line. Most merchants don't realize the line items add up to a 4-figure monthly number until they audit.

  • Failed deliveries cost more than re-shipping. Add support time, customer-service-rep cost per ticket (typical $5-15), refund processing, and replacement product cost - the average is $17-25 per failed delivery.

  • Chargebacks from undelivered packages are 3-5x the order value because they include processor fees, dispute fees, and the lost product. One chargeback can wipe out 20+ correctly-fulfilled orders' margin.

  • These costs scale linearly with order volume. Doubling orders without addressing bad addresses means doubling the leak - not amortizing it.

Justifying Tacey to a CFO

The number this calculator produces is usually 5-15x Tacey's monthly cost. Show it next to the plan price.

Auditing carrier invoices

If the calculator says you should be paying $X in correction fees and your invoice shows 2x that, your label software has a formatting problem.

Quarterly board update

Track this number month over month - it shrinks as your store grows IF you have order-layer validation.

What you get out

Monthly carrier-correction fees, failed-delivery cost, and chargeback exposure

Three dollar figures, plus a total monthly cost of bad addresses for your store at your current volume. The calculator uses industry-benchmark rates from Shippo, Loqate, FedEx, UPS, and Reveel Group - all sourced numbers you can defend in finance meetings.
