How to use it

Merchant tips
How merchants actually use these numbers
Margin and markup are NOT the same. A 50% markup is only a 33% margin. Mixing them up is the most common mistake in pricing meetings.
Track gross margin in dollars, not just percentage. A high-margin item with low volume often loses to a lower-margin item with much higher volume.
Add packaging, payment processing, and a fulfillment allocation to overhead before declaring a product profitable. Many products that look good at gross margin lose money at contribution margin.
